Summary

Through Augmented Reality, Eishishok’s Stories adds a new layer of storytelling to an iconic display in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Permanent Exhibition. The Tower of Faces spans three floors and comprises over 1,000 photographs documenting life before the Holocaust in the small town of Eishishok. Museum-provided tablets, integrated directly into the display, invite visitors to actively explore the stories and lives behind 30 photographs, as well as the community ties that connect them.

Goals & Objectives

Eishishok was one of countless Jewish communities devastated during the Holocaust. In support of the Museum’s mission, Eishishok’s Stories honors the memory of a once flourishing community, with centuries of history, that was destroyed in just a few days in September 1941.

Results & Impact

Over 170,000 visitors have engaged with Eishishok’s Stories since it launched in 2022. Each day, 25% of visitors to the Permanent Exhibition explore the Tower of Faces through AR. Visitors report a more meaningful and memorable experience with the display after delving into the AR stories.
