BIOBUS
A high-tech mobile STEM laboratory
Key Features
A community-oriented mobile experience
An open-ended and exploratory laboratory on wheels
Design that touches nearly every aspect of the project
The Need
BioBus requested that Tessellate design an innovative community laboratory in an AirStream trailer for the next generation of their growing fleet. The organization desired an open-ended, exploratory environment, integrated with physical, technical, and experiential design. Tessellate was tasked with designing the floor plan, touchpoints, casework, visual identity, interior elements, and the exterior design.
The Approach
While BioBus supplied the equipment and expert scientists ready to share their passion for biology, Tessellate had to guide them through the design process. The exploratory environment of the mobile lab required a tightly integrated physical, technical and experiential design from the inside out. Tessellate designed branded, portable microscope carts that were easily removed for use outside of the bus, as well as other casework. The project was completed with a visual brand identity, making the organization’s flagship experience highly recognizable.
“Because of the work they did, we get precisely the enthusiastic reaction we want from our visitors, which makes this project the success it is. The Tessellate team is uniquely creative with strong engineering skills, and I am confident they would bring an artistic eye and depth of experience in bringing your project to life.”
